Flight Plan Magazine

Girls With Wings is an organization founded by Lynda Meeks, the President of Very Important Pilots, LLC. In 2001, she and her pilot friends, and with the support of many others, founded Girls With Wings™, an e-commerce and public awareness project that focuses on using aviation to entertain girls while they educate them about their limitless opportunities. They just knew there should be a concerted effort to introduce girls to dreams of flight from the very start of their life journeys. In its five years of existence, GWWs have spoken to hundreds of girls at schools, museums, air shows, and Girl Scout/Brownies events.

Currently, the website www.GirlsWithWings.com includes activities and inspirational stories of women involved in various fields of aviation motivate girls to pursue their personal and academic aspirations. We have posted motivational stories of women's backgrounds, education, training and personal sources of inspiration in becoming pilots, air traffic controllers, airplane mechanics, etc. In addition, visitors can view videos of aviation enthusiasts telling girls what they do and why they love it so girls better know all of the paths available to them. We believe our “Yes, Girls Can Fly!” t-shirts are a statement about the potential for girls to be introduced to Aviation as well as other Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics based fields from the time they are born.

Girls With Wings™ also has an active mission-based volunteer database of willing aviation enthusiasts in all areas of aeronautics and aerospace from around the country who are seeking to share their knowledge and love of aviation through educational forums, after school clubs, social groups, airshows, etc. We think the more information kids have about their opportunities; the more likely they are to pursue them. We would like the opportunity to visit your group and expand more young girls’ horizons. After all, “girls need flight plans, not fairy tales.”
